…long is — respectively was the border between West and East Germany. That is history since 1990. More than thirty years, the former walls, fences and other inhumane measures of securing the socialist from the capitalist world or vice versa, have been changing massively. What used to be a desert of sand, concrete and steel is now a paradise for birds, insects, trees, shrubs, grasses, weeds and also hikers. There is a lot to discover. The last government of the GDR and some nature preservation activists managed to save a great deal of the former border as a nature reserve.

Let us follow this former trail of death which is now a trail of life and diversity. And let us not forget that Germany East and West have been and still struggle growing together in a peaceful way. This is remarkable and uncompared since World War II. No one should try to restart a new Cold War after the great achievements of great statesmen in the late 1980s in finally bringing peace to the heart of Europe.
