Great tour for bikers

The first part of my border tour in June 2018 was flat, many parts along rivers and seas. Some old buildings along, towns hardly anyone in Germany knows of.

Abandoned buildings, but we have our signs (No Parking) again.

In some places you find memorials of the old border in a small scale: Car patrol path (left), sand (next), “Sperrgraben” (ditch preventing cars trying to break through the fence even getting there), fence (sometimes with automatic firing system) not in service ;-)

Spooky: This grid was used in rivers right below the water surface. So if you were swimming westwards in a border river, you would scratch your belly and chest at some point here.

Not Checkpoint Charly but also at the inner-German border far away from Berlin.

Not part of the border but one of the many relics in East Germany.

On one of the ferries across the border river “Elbe” I met two bikers who used to watch the border, one from the East, one from the West. They make a tour along their old workplace together every other year. Bridges can be built where there were none. Others were destroyed and not rebuilt:
